Download the free Clean Slate app and install it by double clicking on the installer.

This will create an icon on your desktop. When you click on this icon to execute the app your computer will launch Clean Slate which will give you instant access to all the Clean Slate options which you can finetune before hitting the Soft Reset button. Additionally Clean Slate gives you all the power options you ever wanted to have. You can log off, reboot, shutdown, suspend and hibernate your computer with a single click. Clean Slate will take care of the rest.

You can make the process even faster: drag the icon to your quick launch taskbar or pin it to the taskbar to have it present and in view at all times. By clicking on the icon you will get all the soft reset and power option goodies the very same way in a single click without having to navigate first to the desktop.

In order to download Clean Slate simply click on the Download button below and allow the download. It takes no more than 5 seconds to download. Once the download is complete, click on the cleanslate_setup.exe to install Clean Slate on your computer.

Installation of Clean Slate

Click on the cleanslate_setup.exe file which you have downloaded and allow the installation. Follow the onscreen instructions to finish the installation. After the installation you will have an icon on your desktop which will allow you to start the Clean Slate by double clicking on it.

Deinstallation of Clean Slate

Should you want to uninstall Clean Slate from your computer simply use the start menu entry “Uninstall” in the Clean Slate folder. Alternatively you can use the Windows Software Center to remove Clean Slate.

Other ways to get to the power controls on your computer

The simplest way to shutdown, reboot, suspend, hibernate and log off your computer with a single click is the use of Clean Slate. If you don’t care about the soft reset you might be interested in our One Click Power Controls. Alternatively, if you want to have a single click option for a particular action you could also install our other one click solutions:

• One Click Shutdown: Shutdown your computer with a single click.
• One Click Reboot: Reboot your computer with a single click.
• One Click Hibernate: Hibernate your computer with a single click.
• One Click Suspend: Suspend your computer with a single click.

There are, however, some other ways to access the power control pannel of your computer. Here are some:

• Navigate to your desktop, with no other windows in the foreground. Then Press ALT+F4. This will display the traditional Shut Down menu where you can choose Sleep, Shut Down or Restart as well as the option to Switch User or Sign Out (log off).
• Press CTRL+ALT+DEL: this will bring up a dialog to Lock, Switch User, Sign Out and other options. Among those there is also a power icon at the bottom right. You can click it to choose Sleep, Shut Down or Restart.
• The Windows 8 way: when you move your mouse to the top or bottom of the Desktop, you will get the Charms menu. Alternatively you can also Press Win-key + c. There click on ‘Settings’ and then on ‘Power’ where you can choose Sleep, Shut Down or Restart.
• You can speed this up a little by pressing Win-key + i to go straight to the ‘Settings’ menu, from where you click on ‘Power’ to Sleep, Shut Down or Restart
• Depending on how your computer is configured, you might simply press the Power button, or if you have a laptop then close the lid. This might put your computer to sleep (suspend, shutdown etc.). What exactly your computer will be doing depends on the Power Options in the System Settings.

Which one you take is of course up to you. We have found, however, that the use of Clean Slate saved us the hassle of clicking through all these menus and windows. And since rebooting, shutting down, hibernating and suspending as well as logging off are common actions, it saves you quite some time and prevents frustration. In particular the soft reset option of Clean Slate makes rebooting in most cases unnecessary. We use Clean Slate daily and love it. And we are sure, so will you.
